What to do in Singapore

I have been incredibly lucky to have worked in Singapore in a summer camp for over nearly 3 months, and everytime I go back, I love it even more. The idea that Singapore is boring and just a big city is really not the case. The city is immerse in a dense variety of cultures that is waiting to be explored!

Gaze at the Supertrees at night

Every night and 19.45 and 20.45, the fantastic Supertrees at The Gardens by the Bay perform an incredible light show to music. When I was there the first time, it was movie magic playing songs to iconic Disney and Star Wars tunes and then it was 70’s themed where the trees danced to ABBA and The Bee Gees. It’s completely free so all you have to do is sit or lay down amongst the trees and enjoy the show!

Eat everything possible in the Hawker Markets

Singapore is the food capital of the world and it’s easy to see why. With it’s multicultural background, there is an abundance of choice from Malaysian, Chinese, Indian and more! The famous Singaporean dish is definitely chicken rice and the place to try this is in Maxwell Roads Hawker Centre (Beware, you could be queuing a long time). Other incredible ones to try is Lau Pau Sat and East Coast Lagoon. These 2 are much bigger and the East Coast Lagoon also has the added benefit of the views over the water!

Buy a beer in 7eleven and sip away by Clarke Quay

Singapore though strict, has good rules about outdoor drinking and Clarke Quay is the place to go. Since it is expensive, buy yourself a beverage from a market and sit back and enjoy. You may be lucky to have the entertainment of live music around the bridge and it makes for great people watching.

Take a walk in MacRichie Reservoir Park

This walk is most famous for the treetop walk where you stroll above the trees and catch some incredible views. Escape from the city for a day and relish in the beautiful nature Singapore has to offer. Though beware of the monkeys, we had a few accidents of fruit thieving and scratches. You have been warned!

Walk around the Botanic Gardens

Singapore is famous for it’s orchid and what better place to admire the national flower than the botanic gardens. They also have the odd concert for free there, so hopefully you’ll get lucky!

 Explore the districts

Singapore is a melting pot of different cultures, which is what makes it so special! Wander through Chinatown, sample some foods in little India or chill out in Haji Lane in the Arab district.. All in all, a cool experience

Enjoy Singapore and all it has to offer. Sure most say its boring but I believe it is what you make it!
